Reading State Assessments
As you know, your child will take the very important Kansas Reading Test on March 31 and April 1. When I think about how much they have had to learn in third grade, I'm very proud of the effort and dedication so many of them have put forth.
As parents, you have been a very important and powerful influence on how your child has progressed this year. For this reason, I am asking that you (and even other members of your family) take a few minutes to write a short message of support and encouragement to your child. They will read it before testing begins.
After you have written your message, please place it in an envelope and seal it. I will collect the envelopes as they are returned. Your child will be able to refer to your special note each morning before our testing session begins.
Your encouraging words will help your child stay confident and positive each day!
Also, please review their test taking strategies with them.
1. Read through all of the questions.
2. Read the passage.
3. Select the best possible answer and highlight where you found it in the passage.
Additional things to keep in mind for the above dates:

Additional things to keep in mind for the above dates:
- As much as possible, avoid scheduling appointments for the testing dates.
- Try to have your child get a good night's rest.
- Make sure your child comes to school after eating a healthy breakfast or they may also eat in the cafeteria.
- Try to gently encourage your child to do their very best.
- If you would like to volunteer to bring healthy snacks, such as granola bars, fruit, water, or juice for the week of testing that would be greatly appreciated.
As always, thank you for your continued support!
